At some point, we are, or we were, all new to running and starting out on our own personal journey.
Running is a fantastic way to improve your fitness and overall well-being and we've looked at some tips to help you get started and make the most out of your running journey:
Start Gradually
If you're new to running, it's important to ease into it to avoid injuries. Begin with a combination of walking and running, gradually increasing the amount of time you spend running as your fitness level improves.
Invest In Decent Running Shoes
Visit a specialist running store to get fitted for running shoes that suit your foot type and running style. Wearing the right shoes can prevent discomfort and reduce the risk of injuries. They might cost a little more than you had in mind, but it's a valuable thing to invest in which will help you enjoy your running journey even more!
We also think the right headwear is a must, but then we would say that as a way to promote our range of lightweight, breathable running hats and visors..... ;-)
Consider A Training Plan
A great place to start running is with a training plan. As we are all built differently and have different abilities, the same plan doesn't work for everyone. This is where reaching out to a private coach, or using an app like Coopah, can be really beneficial so that you have a personalised plan created specifically for you.
These plans often gradually increase your running distance and intensity over time, helping you build endurance while reducing the risk of overexertion.
Listen To Your Body
We've all done it - you lace up your shoes and head off for a run without thinking about it. One of the most important things to consider is listening to your body.
Pay attention to any discomfort or pain while running. If you experience persistent pain, it's important to rest and seek professional advice if necessary.
Pushing through injuries can lead to more severe problems and no-one enjoys being on the sidelines waiting to recover from a niggle.
Join In With The Running Community
Consider joining a local running group or find people who have the same passion for you in online communities of runners. Connecting with other runners can provide support, motivation, and valuable advice.
We've witnessed it over the years and it's a truly positive space to be involved in!
Have Fun And Enjoy The Process
Remember that running is not just about achieving goals. It's also an opportunity to enjoy the outdoors, clear your mind, and embrace a healthier lifestyle.
Celebrate your progress and don't forget to have fun along the way. If you earn yourself a medal from an event, then why not join in our Medal Monday competition each week!
Remember, everyone's running journey is unique, so listen to your body, adapt as necessary, and enjoy the many benefits that running can bring to your life, both physically and mentally.
Happy running!
