Project Salt Run - Running 100 marathons in 100 days across India

Project Salt Run - Running 100 marathons in 100 days across India

Project Salt Run is a story about what becomes possible when a small group of people choose to act with purpose.

In October 2025, Hannah Cox, a first-time ultrarunner and purpose-led entrepreneur started out with the aim of being the first person to run 100 marathons in 100 days along the Indian section of the Old Inland Customs Line, a forgotten colonial boundary which stretched across India and Pakistan.

This historic route once enforced a devastating salt tax. Now, it's being reimagined as a path toward connection and change.

Project Salt Run isn’t just a run, it’s a platform to inspire action and show how businesses and individuals can work together to build a more equitable, sustainable future.

The Update

Project Salt Run has officially passed the 1,055km mark, completing 25 consecutive marathons through heat exposure, chaotic city crossings, broken terrain and almost no sleep. But despite exhaustion and relentless conditions, the team is still moving with purpose, and still committed to raising £1 million for people and planet.

Run by Hannah Cox, a first-time ultrarunner and founder of the Better Business Network, and powered by a small dedicated field team: Joel Chevaillier (filmmaker and logistics), Natalie Smith (Comms & Social Media), and Alex Fowler (Podiatrist and daily run support). Together, they are proving what becomes possible when a small group of people commit to a mission far bigger than themselves.

A Route With a Story That Matters

The run follows the Inland Customs Line, a 4,200km colonial barrier once enforced with a living hedge used to collect the salt tax. What once divided people is now being reimagined as a route for connection, courage and climate action. Hannah will be the first person to run this entire route, finishing in Kolkata at the childhood home of her late father, transforming this physical challenge into a deeply personal journey with global resonance.

Raising £1 Million for People and Planet

Project Salt Run is raising funds for four charity partners: 1% for the Planet, Frank Water, ClientEarth and Big Change. All four organisations play a vital role in protecting people and planet, from legal climate action to clean water access to systemic change for young people. Their missions, like the expedition, are rooted in collective action. Before the project can unlock £1 million for these organisations, the team must reach the finish line, and this is where support is crucial.

Why Support Is Needed Now

Project Salt Run is powered by determination, community kindness and one very hardworking van named Moxy, serving as a bunk house, kitchen, command centre and occasional bathroom for the entire team. The crew sleep at petrol stations, live mostly on cold rice, and wash clothes in a bucket, all while filming, editing, handling logistics and moving 40 km down the road every day.

It’s not pretty, but it’s real and what makes this challenge special. With your support, the team can thrive, giving this story the depth, safety and impact it deserves.

Every donation helps keep the wheels turning. Every share connects the mission to someone new. Every introduction strengthens the network effect that this challenge was built for. And with enough support, the team might even upgrade from cold rice to hot rice!

Now is the moment to get behind Project Salt Run and help fuel the next 75 days!
